About

ABOUT THIS BLOG, ETC:

Created on Saturday, Oct 24, 2009, over my lunch break while making up a missed day earlier so as not to burn PTO, this blog will occasionally contain my thoughts and musings on anything I decide to comment on. It’s also a handy place to list the blogs and sites I visit regularly.

This blog itself is being hosted by me on a P3-800 MHz “server”, with 512 MB ram, unning FreeBSD 7.2. So yes, it could be overwhelmed, even accidentally. However, doing so purposefully is a lot like stepping on an ant. Wow, ain’t you cool.

Politically, I describe myself as a small “l” libertarian, meaning while I like and adhere to libertarian values, I’d rather not be associated with the LP. Too many nuts in that party, especially the guy from Montana that turned himself blue by taking silver.

What this really means is I believe in freedom. Taxes are evil, income based ones especially so. Freedom of speech means that if you don’t like what someone is saying, counter with more speech, don’t ban it. Yes, I have the right to as many guns as I want, regardless of whether you like them, are afraid of them, or whatnot. While I may not go as far as Billy Beck in describing the constitution as a lost cause (though there are issues with it, he’s not wrong), I think we’d be a lot better off with a strict reading and adherence to it, as our founding fathers were not idiots.

As for the blogroll to the right, it is simply a current reflection of my daily reads. It does not imply complete, lockstep agreement with any content contained therein. Nor is it a slight at anyone not listed. I decided to make my list useful, primarily to me. I’m just not going to use it as a place to list every blog known to man, as that is just useless on so many levels.

Non-politically, I’m a geek, and a tech junky. Just ask my wife. I even have a BS in Computer Science from MTU (1999) to prove it. I also love to hunt (I don’t get out as much as I’d like), and fish, and working out when I have the time and space. P90x rocks.

I like running, using, and playing around with different Unix based operating systems: Solaris, Opensolaris, FreeBSD, the other *BSDs, and even Linux. I even tried Plan 9 from Bell labs once too.

At work, I’m a computer programmer, R&D guy, and a sys admin. I deal mainly with Solaris 10, Opensolaris, FreeBSD and Linux servers. I also develop our products, from hosted email to spam appliances to the upcoming storage appliances. I’ve also wired our current office, and took the lead in the design of our new datacenter. I just didn’t pay the bills, that the owner’s job. hehe.

Finally, to the family life. I’m married (8+ years now), with 3 girls, ranging in ages from damn-near 15, to 2.5. For my schooling, it was: St. Joseph Grade school (K-8), Green Bay Southwest High (9 – 12), and Michigan Tech University.

Any other info about me can be garnered thusly: Facebook; Twitter; LinkedIn.
